A lifetime forgotten

A lifetime forgotten

Published on Facebook on 7th of November 2017

Having considered all the suggestions I received, this one seemed most appropriate to me.
I'm delighted with the response to my painting of this old cottage. There are so many similar abandoned cottages, like this one, scattered throughout the country.
Humble homes of generations past. Happy memories for some and, perhaps, bitter family disputes for others. If the walls could speak we would, no doubt, be surprised at the stories they would tell. We look on them with nostalgia for times past " the good old days" memories of "The Quiet Man" and John Wayne digging potatoes in the garden.
This was once someone's pride and joy, cared for with love, painted every year and the garden tended and nurtured with pride.  A home for a family and shelter from the wind and rain. Cosy chats around the fireside and endless plans for the future.
The future that is now the past, family reared, mortgage paid, and the nest empty.
The next generation has moved on. No time to tend to the old cottage and nature starts to reclaim its place. Weeds grow wild and the rot sets in. For some a lifetime forgotten, for others a sleeping beauty ready to be reborn.
